Tristhal Yatra: Day4 @ Gaya– Part 1

Day 4 began early…. very early… 2 AM.

By 3 am or so, we were on the road from Kashi to Gaya…  Idea was to reach Gaya in the morning, so that the shraaddha rituals could be done, and we could return to Kashi by night…

Riding a nice Qualis, we had enough space to stretch and sleep…

When the Sun rose,  we were passing some nice countryside. The world was all at peace.

Sometime around 7:30 am or so, we reached the outskirts of Gaya, and found a sign pointing to Bodh Gaya temple. We turned in, parked the car, bought the entry tickets, and walked to the temple built at the place where Buddha experienced Enlightenmnt…

At one place, the temple suddenly came in view. It was stunning.. Beautiful… My mind just stopped… I stared in awe… No picture can do justice to that experience… Here’s a pic anyway…

So much silence, beauty…. Such peace…

The above was not “the” tree.

“The” tree, the holy Bodhi tree… Picture below…

The place around the tree, indeed in the whole of the temple, was spic and span… Beautifully maintained… Evidently well funded and managed… Offices of Buddhist organizations from many countries are seen in Bodh Gaya. There is even an international airport there… The only one in Bihar, I think…

One more picture of the Bodhi tree…

Signing off from Bodh Gaya with one more picture of the great temple…  A view from another side…

In the silence, there is the hum….. Buddham sharanam gacchaami…
